Twist-Off® Closure with "Button"
A distinct "pop" or "click" can be heard when the Twist-Off® Button Closure is opened for the first time.
The noise is caused by the vacuum being released and the button popping back to its original position. The Twist-Off® Button Closure demonstrates to consumers in three ways, that a product is safely sealed: they can see, feel and hear the change. The closure can be applied using existing Silgan White Cap machines and processes. As many as 50% of Twist-Off® closures today feature a button.
The graphic design of the closure also makes it possible to visually draw consumer attention to the button, for example, by means of an arrow and a phrase such as "pops when first opened".
During application, the closure's preheated compound liner is pressed against the glass sealing surface. At the same time, the lugs engage the glass threads. Once the condensing steam has generated an adequate vacuum, the vacuum-indicating button is drawn down.
Originally developed to satisfy the high safety requirements of the baby food industry.
